Attend a Research Finance Drop-In Session

Renee Estrella, the Manager of Research Finance at UTS, presented a new version of the research finance dashboard in the Research Café. A collaborative effort between Finance, the Research Office, IT and the Data Analytics team, the new Power BI dashboard makes it easier for researchers to manage grant finance. A series of Drop-In Sessions will be on offer throughout September 2025 to introduce the new features.

With active projects now represented across four diagrams that make it easy to track research income and expenditure, Renee said the new version features clearer visuals and smarter insights to help researchers confidently track budgets, monitor spending, and manage their own research finance.

“You can now see all the projects listed in Research Master under your name as well as the available funds,” Renee explained.

“If you are ever going into the red, you can immediately see that this needs to be discussed with your Faculty finance team. You may also have some surpluses on your fund that needs to be spent within a given timeframe.”

Renee said the first dashboard displays all available funds as well as other essential information for managing a research project. Researchers can also drill down through a second dashboard to understand exactly where their grant funds are being spent within a project and funds has been received.

You can now see all the projects listed in Research Master under your name as well as the available funds.

She concluded the session by encouraging researchers to become familiar with the dashboard to better understand and manage their research grants.
