Next up in the UTS Ageing Research Collaborative’s (UARC) Seminar Series we will hear from Dr Serra Ivynian as she speaks around this month’s theme: Health and Wellbeing.
Enabling decision-making in aged care

Prof Deborah Parker speaking at the UARC seminar series
Serra is a UARC Research Fellow from the Faculty of Health. Her previous work in palliative care, aged care and cardiovascular care has focused on giving voice to people with life-limiting illness and their informal carers who are too often ignored.
Her research interests include patient-provider communication and health literacy, people’s experiences within health and aged care settings, coping responses, and the impact of these factors on decision-making.
Serra’s presentation at this month’s UARC seminar will be around enabling decision-making in a fractured context through a transdisciplinary approach.
“Many of societal problems are large and complex. As an institution, UTS is committed to solving these ‘wicked problems’ through research innovation,” Serra said.
“Supported by the UTS Strategic Research Accelerator scheme, our transdisciplinary team at UARC investigates the complex problem of healthy ageing in the context of Australia’s fractured and exceedingly difficult to navigate aged care system,” she said.
Many of societal problems are large and complex. As an institution, UTS is committed to solving these ‘wicked problems’ through research innovation.
Serra’s presentation will explore the nature of UARC’s transdisciplinary work, the ongoing development of their consumer-focused multidimensional decision-making tool for older Australians and their carers, and next steps to achieve UARCs vision of economically and socially sustainable aged care.
