The visit hosted by Dr Tania Bezzobs, Director of the UTS Research Office, represented a shared commitment between the two universities to advancing international research collaborations, fostering industry engagement and driving innovation across disciplines.
During the visit, senior representatives from RTU and UTS engaged in discussions exploring aligned research priorities in areas such as engineering, sustainability and digital transformation.
“It was an honour to host our Latvian colleagues who share our strong interest in co-developing projects that leverage each of our existing capabilities and address global challenges through research collaboration and development,” said Tania.
“In signing our Memorandum of Understanding, I’m excited to be embarking on a collaborative framework for future joint initiatives with RTU. This agreement reflects our mutual ambition to deepen academic exchange, support joint PhD supervision and explore co-funded research opportunities.”

International exchange opportunities
In an exciting development, a series of new Erasmus+ mobility opportunities between UTS and RTU have been established to enable staff to participate in short-term exchanges.
“Our new staff mobility agreements are designed to foster intercultural learning and strengthen academic/professional networks across Europe and Australia,” Tania said, adding that the RTU delegation’s visit reaffirms UTS’s commitment to global engagement and innovation-led partnerships.
“We look forward to building on this momentum and creating impactful outcomes for our communities, industries and research ecosystems in Latvia, Australia and beyond.”
