Event description:
UTS is a member of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), a leading global higher education network connecting 24 research-intensive universities in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania. WUN offers special programs for career development including networking opportunities for researchers.
You are invited to join the next webinar in a series focused on mental health, led by a collaboration of WUN member university researchers. The webinar is titled, ‘Exploring the Social Roots of Suicide and Self-Harm’.
This webinar series seeks to work differently to traditional webinars with speakers providing a provocation to an overarching tension inherent in mental health research followed by collaborative group discussions. We are delighted to welcome three speakers:
- Tharindi Udalagama, University of Edinburgh: ‘Researcher Wellbeing in Suicide Prevention Research in Sri Lanka’
- Ben Gregory, University of Leeds: ‘Suicide and Place: understanding the connection between local area and suicidality’
- Elisha Joshi, University of Bristol: ‘Provincial trends and patterns of suicide in Nepal’
Each of the presenters will draw on their research expertise to address the following framing questions:
- What are your key research findings?
- What are the social factors shaping suicide or self-harm in your research?
- What approaches or methods have worked best for you and why?
- So what? How and why is your work relevant for suicide research and prevention?
In addition to the presentations, the webinar will feature:
- Q&A Sessions with the speakers
- Breakout room discussions to connect and share perspectives across attendees.
Spaces are limited, so please ensure that if you need to cancel etc, you inform the organiser: Kier Harris: mlkeh@leeds.ac.uk.
