What is a tender? 

A tender is a formal offer from a Buyer to Supplier/s, to perform work (research) in return for payment (via fixed price or schedule of rates) which may include the supply of goods, services or both. The tendering process in Research can be highly competitive as Buyers often seek tender responses from multiple Suppliers in order to assess which response best meets their needs, displays the best use of resources and budget and considers the delivery timeline.

Tenders as are issued frequently by all levels of local, state and federal government, the public sector and NGO's as well as corporate entities. These tenders can come in many shapes and forms. For example; Request for Tender (RFT), Approach to Market (ATM), Request for Proposals (RFP), Invitation to Offer (ITO), Invitation to Respond (ITR), Request for Quote (RFQ). 

How to prepare a tender response? 

The very first step in considering whether or not you should prepare a response is to contact the Business Research Engagement Team.​Everything in your tender response needs to tell a story. In order to do this, you need a bid strategy that allows you enough time to prepare a quality response with a clear and consistent message. Part of this includes framing your response so that the client understands how, when and who will provide the service/product, and the cost involved.

They will help prepare the tender documents, budget, legal review of any draft agreement and secure the necessary signatures demonstrating the University’s support for the bid.
