Get help with tools and systems.  

When it comes to navigating online systems and research processes, UTS offers regular drop-in sessions to help you to complete tasks that may involve a tool or process with which you may be unfamiliar.  

From estimating budgets to charting your research impact, these drop-in sessions are designed to meet you where you are in your academic or professional journey, making expert guidance available to you when you need it. 

Make an appointment at one of the drop-in sessions listed below to speak to an expert, find answers to specific questions, learn new skills and connect with the right people that can help you get the job done. 

Here's a breakdown of what’s available and when, so you can make the most of this valuable research support. 

Finance  

  • When: 10-11 am Tuesdays & 3-4pm Thursdays 
  • What: Need help managing your research budget, using the UTS Costing and Pricing Tool or understanding how to accurately estimate research project costs? Make an appointment for direct support from the Finance Team to gain clarity on all things research finance. 

Collaboration technologies  

  • When: 3rd Monday of the month, 10 am 
  • What: Join these monthly sessions to learn about Microsoft 365 and other collaboration tools used at UTS. Each session begins with a short presentation on a new or lesser-known feature, followed by open time for Q&A. IT experts will be there to offer tips, answer questions and share ways to make the most of these powerful tools available to all UTS staff.

Data analytics and insight 

  • When: 10-10:30 am, fortnightly on Wednesdays 
  • What: These sessions are ideal for anyone working with Power BI or tackling data visualisation challenges. Bring your technical questions or data viz problems to discuss with Power BI experts who can help you resolve issues.

Research IT

  • When: 3-4pm Thursdays
  • What: The Research IT Drop-In is a weekly meetup where researchers can congregate to work on their research problems related to code, data, or digital tools in a social environment. The eResearch team will be there to provide help!

Qualitative data analysis clinic 

  • When: monthly 
  • What: Researchers working with qualitative data can access specialised support through these monthly clinics. Bring your questions about qualitative data analysis and be guided through the process, tools and best practices by UTS experts.

Discovery Profiles  

  • When: Monday to Thursday 
  • What: Need help creating or updating your Discovery Profile? Book an appointment between Monday and Thursday to get support with optimising your research profile, showcasing your work and using online tools to reach new audiences.

Research impact  

  • When: Monday to Wednesday & Friday 
  • What: These one-on-one drop-in sessions are perfect for researchers who want to understand and communicate the impact of their work. Whether it’s crafting NIT Statements, learning about Research Impact 101, or planning engagement activities, UTS research impact experts are here to assist.

Symplectic Elements  

  • When: Scheduled upon request 
  • What: Stay up to date with Symplectic Elements! Attend a demo session to learn about the latest version or get help troubleshooting specific issues. This support is invaluable for maintaining accurate and comprehensive research records.
