Symplectic is one of the UTS research management systems in which you can record and manage your research outputs and record engagement and impact information. It also allows you to create a public Discovery Profile to showcase your research to the world. A Discovery Profile is a web page that displays your name, photo, biography, research interests, publications, grants, awards and impact. It also links to your ORCID, Scopus, LinkedIn and Google Scholar profiles.
Having a Discovery Profile is a powerful way to promote your research, be discovered and enhance your reputation. It can help you to:
- highlight your research achievements and interests to a global audience
- increase the discoverability and accessibility of your research outputs
- demonstrate your research impact and engagement
- attract potential collaborators, funders, and media
- build your professional network and online presence.
Creating a Discovery Profile is easy and quick – literally in a matter of minutes. You can use the information that you have already entered in Symplectic or you can add new information that you want to share – keeping it up to date as your research and professional work evolves and grows.
How to create a profile
To create your Discovery Profile, follow these simple steps:
- Log in to Symplectic
- Go to the drop down in the top right corner
- Click on ‘My Profile’
- The click ‘Edit Mode’
- Change the ‘Profile privacy’ from Internal to Public
- Fill in the fields that you want to display on your profile
- Click on ‘Save’
Once you have created your Discovery Profile, you can share it with your colleagues, collaborators, and contacts. You can also add it to your email signature, social media accounts. You can also browse other Discovery Profiles of UTS researchers and discover their research interests and outputs.
HDR students, researchers, professional staff are all encouraged to have a Discovery Profiles - by creating one you are joining the UTS research community and showcasing your expertise to the world. Being able to communicate and disseminate your research outcomes so that others can benefit is a core part of the UTS Research Outcomes Capability Framework. Another essential capability for research excellence is having the confidence to maintain a national and international research profile. Maintaining an up to date Discovery Profile will help you achieve in these areas.
