How can we better understand the real-world challenges of aged care? Join Dr Suyin Hor who will help us answer this question in the next instalment of the UTS Ageing Research Collaborative (UARC) Research Seminar Series on Wednesday 13 August 2025.
Reimagining aged care

A Senior Lecturer and the HDR Coordinator in the UTS School of Public Health, Suyin is a social scientist interested in how safe and high-quality care is accomplished, with a special interest in infection prevention and control.
Her presentation will discuss how video can transform our understanding of health and aged care, introducing us to video-reflexive ethnography.
"I love using video-reflexivity because it allows us as researchers to grapple with the complexities of frontline care, led by those involved in doing the work,” Suyin said.
“We get to see the taken-for-granted skills and practices involved in creating safe care and then build on that. It's like knowledge creation and translation, together in practice.”
It's like knowledge creation and translation, together in practice.
Through real examples, Suyin will explain how this approach generates practical insights about everyday work and could help design infection control strategies that are not only safe but also compassionate and context appropriate.
